2004: Onboard navigation units
June 2, 2011 | by: John Baxter
GPS units and software to provide instant onboard navigation help drivers reduce out-of-route miles and time wasted searching for a delivery or pickup point while improving on-time performance.
The GPS unit re-calculates when the truck is off route helps find the easiest way to get back on track. Modern versions include lists of local restaurants and hotels to help drivers find services near the highway or their destination or pickup point. Some units also update their internal highway information when roads or bridges are closed and offer real-time traffic and weather views.
